Since 2002, the Alabama School of Fine Arts and Jefferson State Community College have teamed up to produce the Red Mountain Reading Series. Past visiting writers have included Peter Meinke, Honoree Jeffers, Ander Monson, Joyelle McSweeney, Robin Behn, George Singleton, Natasha Tretheway, Tom Franklin, Tayari Jones, Michael Martone, and many others.
